We are consulting on the future of our Day Services for older people

Have your say: two consultations launched
We have launched two consultations to help shape the future of our Day Service for older people.
In early 2016, we began the process of developing the future day service offer for older people and adults with disabilities. We own and operate seven day services - four are for older people. We are currently consulting on the future of Biggleswade and Leighton Buzzard Older Peoples Day Centres.
Why are we consulting on the future of our Older Persons Day Centres?
We want to ensure all our residents have the best possible quality of life and we’re committed to developing and enhancing our day services. We want to make sure that our Older Persons Day Centres:
• offer opportunities for social interaction and physical and mental stimulation for customers
• offer respite and peace of mind for carers
• meet care and support needs
We believe we can offer better opportunities to our Older Persons Day Centre customers.
Biggleswade Day Centre for Older People
We have considered a number of options for the future of the Biggleswade Day Centre for Older People, which are outlined in our consultation document.
Our preferred option at this time is to relocate the current service to community space at Sorrel Gardens, a new independent living scheme located at Sorrel Way, Biggleswade. If this happens, we would then close Biggleswade Day Centre.
We have arranged face to face meetings with the customers of the centre and their families, so they can talk to us about the consultation and have their say. We are keen to hear other people’s views and feedback. To have your say on the future of Biggleswade Day Centre for Older People, visit our website. The consultation closes on Friday 15 July 2022.
Leighton Buzzard Day Centre for Older People
Before the COVID-19 pandemic, we began reviewing Leighton Buzzard Older Persons Day Centre. We started a 12-week consultation on the future of the centre, but due to the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic the day centre was temporarily suspended, as was the consultation on its future.
We’re now restarting the consultation. The responses of anyone who completed the questionnaire previously will be included in a separate report, although we would encourage those people to respond again.
Having looked at a number of options for the future of the centre, which are outlined in our consultation document, our preferred option is to relocate the current service for existing customers to community space at Marigold House. Marigold House is a new care home being built on the former police station site at Hockliffe Road, Leighton Buzzard. If this happens, we would then close Leighton Buzzard Day Centre.
A Community Opportunities Group (COG) for customers with learning disabilities is based at Leighton Buzzard Day Centre for three days a week. The Leighton Buzzard Day Centre has been a ‘touch down’ base for the group and they spend a lot of time out in the community. If the Day Centre were to close, then an alternative ‘touch down’ base would be required for the COG. We are committed to keeping the COG running from Leighton Buzzard and will work with the COG customers to discuss how this will be achieved.
We have arranged face to face meetings with the customers of the centre and their families, so they can talk to us about the consultation and have their say. We are keen to hear other people’s views and feedback. To have your say on the future of Leighton Buzzard Day Centre for Older People, visit our website. The consultation closes on Thursday 7 July 2022.
