Community Groups to benefit from £2m National Highways Legacy Fund

Date Added: 24/01/2024

In December 2023, National Highways started works on upgrading the route between the Black Cat roundabout and Caxton Gibbet roundabout with a new 10-mile dual carriageway and several junction improvements. The scheme which will improve journeys between Milton Keynes and Cambridge is set to bring communities together and support long term growth in the region.

Understanding the significance of community engagement and the desire to extend the impact of the A428 improvements beyond the physical project, National Highways is committing £2 million to a dedicated legacy fund. The primary objective is to maximize the broader benefits of the A428 Black Cat to Caxton Gibbet improvements for local not-for-profit groups including local schools, charities, community groups and environment and heritage groups in Bedfordshire and Cambridgeshire.

There are two funds are available for potential applicants:

  • £1.7 Million Social Value Fund: This fund is designed to maximize the wider benefits of the A428 improvements for all not-for-profit organizations, with grants ranging from £15,000 to £200,000.
  • £250,000 Community Fund: Geared towards supporting the local community and providing social value, this fund is available for not-for-profit groups or small voluntary and community organizations, offering grants of up to £15,000.

To find out more about your eligibility and how to apply, visit the A438 legacy page.
