Sandy Town Council: Civility & Respect Pledge
Date Added: 09/02/2023
Sandy Town Council (STC) has signed up to the Civility & Respect Pledge. At the last full council meeting on Monday 23rd January, the council agreed to sign up to the pledge; to start a culture change for the local council sector. It has been signed on behalf of STC by The Mayor, Councillor Martin Pettitt. He stated, "This Pledge perfectly complements the existing Code of Conduct. The Pledge must serve to remind and guide all those who hold a position in public life of the responsibility we have to conduct ourselves appropriately at all times by putting into practice everything contained in it".
This is an important benchmark for STC, as it will train and hold the council accountable to proper conduct and good governance by: treating all with equal respect, calling out bullying and harassment - to support best practice and positive change. Ensuring we remain professional and in the best interests of the Council, its employees, members of the public, and partner organisations is paramount.
The Pledge is in collaboration with the Society of Local Council Clerks (SLCC), National Association of Local Councils (NALC), One Voice Wales (OVW), and county associations. STC are pleased to have taken the pledge, as well as some of our nearby Parishes & Towns: Blunham, Little Paxton, Henlow & Kempston (to name a few).
We hope to continue learning, growing, and putting good governance at the core of what we do. For more information about the pledge, please visit the following website: https://www.nalc.gov.uk/our-work/civility-and-respect-project
