We are looking for Summer Reading Challenge Volunteers!

Date Added: 23/06/2022

Do you know a young person who will have time on their hands this Summer?

Biggleswade Library is looking for young people aged 13 or more to help run our annual Summer Reading Challenge for children.

Volunteers don't need to be library members or the keenest of readers, they just need to be prepared to commit some hours over the long Summer holidays to help us run the challenge. They don't need to be available all Summer and will be able to agree volunteering sessions that suit both themselves and their local library.

What do Summer Reading Challenge Volunteers do?
Volunteers help with the organisation of The Summer Reading Challenge by signing up children to join the challenge, talking to children about the books they have read and handing out reading rewards!

Volunteers can also get involved in Summer Reading Challenge events and activities.  This year children will be invited to join the Gadgeteers for a very special science-themed challenged, so there will be lots of opportunities for our volunteers to get involved in science and technology based activities.

What are the benefits of vounteering?
Volunteering at their local library gives young people the opportunity to:
• gain valuable work experience to increase employability and to add to UCAS forms
• learn new skills in a local venue
• become more confident and improve their social skills
• make a positive contribution to their local community

"Whilst volunteering at the library I have learnt a sense of responsibility and it has helped me to understand the skills I am going to need in my future career"
Summer Reading Challenge Volunteer Gabe (aged 15)

To find out more and apply just drop into the library and chat to the Library Manager.
