Book of the month - June 2022
Date Added: 28/05/2022
Magpie by Elizabeth Day
When Marisa meets Jake, everything falls into place. But then their new lodger Kate arrives. Something isn’t right about her. It’s the way she looks at Jake, keeps her toothbrush right next to theirs and constantly asks questions about the baby they are trying for. Or maybe it’s all in Marisa’s head. That’s what Jake thinks. And she trusts him, doesn’t she? But Marisa knows something is wrong, and she is determined to find out why, even if it costs her everything.

Providing services for visually impaired borrowers
Hi VIS 2022 takes place between 6 and 19 June, and aims to emphasise and celebrate the importance of accessible libraries and reading for blind and visually impaired people. Libraries can provide a vital service for people with visual impairment, and we're committed to playing our part in ensuring that the almost two million blind and partially sighted people in the UK can visit a fully accessible library service, that has a local collection of accessible reading materials and information in physical or digital forms.
If you or someone you know has visual impairment, our libraries offer a great range of accessible resources and have a wide selection of materials, which include -
• Large Print books
• E-books with a range of accessibility options, including changing the font size and working with screen readers
• Audiobooks, in both physical and digital formats
• Newspapers through PressReader, which offers an accessibility mode and allows readers to increase font sizes and have articles read to them
• Accessibility options on our PNs, and large mice and keyboards in our libraries
Registered blind or partially sighted people can have a concessionary card, which offers reduced charges and allows them to borrow physical audiobooks for free. Staff in our libraries are always happy to help our borrowers to find and access what they need.
If you or someone you know has a visual impairment that prevents them from visiting the library we also offer a Home Library Service. You can find out more about the Home Library Service on our virtual library, or contact Flitwick Library, where the service is based, on 0300 300 8057.
