We held a Community Action Day in Sandy last week

Date Added: 30/06/2022

We held a successful Community Action Day in Sandy last week.

Our Safer Communities, Safer Neighbourhood, Environmental Services, Environment, Highways and Parking Teams worked together with Bedfordshire Police, Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue Service, and Grand Union Housing Group to carry out high visibility patrols, home visits, business visits, and tidying of areas, as well as making noticeable improvements to the local area, in response to residents’ feedback.

Bedfordshire Police conducted Speed Checks around the town, local councillors held their Councillor Surgery to talk to residents about any issues they wished to raise, and the Good Neighbours Scheme volunteers and our library service supported the day too.

The Environment Team conducted a litter pick the day before and displayed the waste in their litter cube on the market square. Members of Street Watch also patrolled promoting the great work they do and explaining to residents how they can join them to make a direct impact on making their local community a safer place to live.

With the support of our councillors, our Community Safety and Trading Standards Teams patrolled across Sandy and carried out weapons and Cold Caller Sweeps. We also had a stall on Market Square to share information about community safety and partner services.

Jeff Carter, Safer Communities team leader said: "Meeting so many local people on the Community Action Day gave us a real sense of how people feel living in Sandy. Being able to respond to concerns raised was satisfying, but also hearing how so many people find Sandy a good place to live and work was a really positive message to hear."

Grand Union Housing's Youth Participation Co-ordinator worked with Sandy Upper School to share our Safer Central Youth Survey. Please encourage anyone under the age of 18 to complete this survey, as we are keen to hear the views of our younger residents.
