Sandy Town Council: Councillor Co-option for Sandy Town Council
Date Added: 24/08/2023
A couple of months ago after election, we began our recruitment drive to get more Councillors through Co-Option. We were fortunate to get three brilliant new members of the Council: Cllr Susannah Baker, Cllr Briony Blackley and Cllr Archie Effiong. They have really got stuck into Council business and are learning the ropes in order to best support their communities.
After taking on these 3 new Councillors, we are still left with 1 vacancy in Fallowfield. If you think you could make a difference in your community, you can stand to become a councillor and be an active part of the Council as early as mid-September. If you are passionate about transforming Sandy and representing the people’s opinion, then you are who we’re looking for! Come along with your enthusiasm and experience and join a larger group of 20,000 local councillors in England who make decisions in their areas.
You do not need any special qualifications to become a councillor (though work experience and relevant qualifications are welcomed); but mainly the desire and love for your town with a willingness to put in the effort required.
Expressions of interest are invited from applicants who must be over 18, be an elector, live or work in or near Sandy and be a citizen of the EU or the Commonwealth.
It is important to note that you cannot become a councillor if you:
• Work for another authority in a politically restrictive post, or work for the town council.
• Are the subject of a bankruptcy restrictions order or interim order.
• Have been sentenced to prison for 3 months or more in the past 5 years.
