Suspicious telephone calls offering ‘free alarm pendant’

Date Added: 04/07/2022

Act with caution if you receive a suspicious telephone call

The Trading Standards team is urging residents to be on their guard if they receive any unsolicited telephone calls.
A concerned resident has contacted us recently after being contacted by a caller, claiming to be from “Medical Alerts”. The caller stated that the resident was entitled to a free alarm pendant. However, when the resident began to query the offer, the caller promptly ended the call.

We believe these callers maybe targeting elderly and vulnerable residents, although we would urge anyone who receives this type of unsolicited telephone call to act with caution.

Never provide your personal details to a caller who has contacted you out of the blue and if you have any doubts about whether the caller is genuine, don’t be afraid to simply hang up!

Please help protect others, by letting your family, friends and neighbours know about this alert.

If you receive a telephone call that you suspect maybe a scam, please report it by calling us on 0808 223 1133.

Be Scam Aware
