The Libraries Summer Reading Challenge

Date Added: 31/07/2021

How to join this years challenge

Wild World Heroes is this years Summer Reading Challenge theme. It is run jointly by the Reading Agency and public libraries and is supported this year by the World Wildlife Fund.

Just by reading books children will earn stickers, rewards and also a medal on completing the sixth  book this holiday.
To find more about how to join the challenge and see the rewards in close up watch this two minute Video or go to Central Bedfordshire's Reading Challenge Page for more details.

We have so many picture books for you to enjoy

We have loads more suggested picture books with links to the catalogue in our Wild World Heroes for under 6's list which is easy to use.

Children must be members of the library, so first Join the Library  then, choose some books and take part in the challenge. You have lots of time - there is the whole school holiday to complete the challenge.

Children can now borrow in person or make reservations using our suggested booklist or via our Select & Collect service.
If younger brothers and sisters want to join in too they can, because parents are encouraged to read the books to them and help them get the rewards.

Why not choose an animal novel or adventure to excite your Imagination?

These are just a sample of the stories on offer, follow this Wild World Heroes  link for 6-8 years and for  7-11 years  to find even more brilliant stories.  You can click on the titles to make reservations and then have them put aside for you to collect.

We also have a wide range of fact books to choose, you can browse our Library Catalogue Arena by putting topics in the search box you can reserve a copy to collect from your nearest branch.  This is Free!

The choice of books is entirely up to you, as you can choose whichever books you prefer to read.

You can complete the challenge virtually
There is a wide selection of Ebooks and audio for all ages on our Wild World Heroes Pinterest Board which provides direct links to help you borrow the titles.

You can also use our online lending platform the Virtual Library to borrow Ebooks and audiobooks from Libby and Borrowbox.  They have a selection of reading challenge titles on their homepages.  To access these simply log in with your Library Card Number and PIN and download to your device.

We hope you enjoy the challenge, see you soon!
