Roadworks - A1 southbound Sandy to Biggleswade and Buckden to Wyboston
Date Added: 24/11/2021
National Highways will be carrying out essential maintenance work to replace the road markings and studs between Sandy and Biggleswade and Buckden and Wyboston. Once complete, drivers will benefit from a better-defined road surface as we head into the winter months.
They plan to complete this work over 5 nights between Tuesday 7 December and Thursday 16 December. They will work between 8pm and 6am on weeknights only, weather conditions permitting.
Closures and diversions
Work will be carried out in two separate stages, as indicated below. When they need to close the A1, drivers will be diverted along a well-signed diversion route as follows:
• A1 southbound between Sandy and Biggleswade North Roundabout - Wednesday 8 and Thursday 9 December then Tuesday 14 and Wednesday 15 December.
Southbound traffic will exit the A1 at the Sandy Roundabout and join the A603/Bedford Road. Traffic will then join the A421 southbound and turn onto the A6 southbound. At Clophill, traffic will join the A507 to join the A1(M) at junction 10. (Diagram 1)
There will also be overnight lane closures in place on the A1 southbound approach to Biggleswade North Roundabout on Tuesday 7, Friday 10 and Monday 13 December.
• A1 southbound between Hail Bridge (Buckden) and Wyboston - Thursday 16 December.
Southbound traffic will be diverted via the A14 / A428 and re-join the A1 at Wyboston. (Diagram 2)
A map of the diversions can be found below.
