Great Goal for Sandy Football Club
Date Added: 15/05/2013
Sandy Football Club has "scored" a fantastic grant of £33,299 from the Football Stadia Improvement Fund. Together with funds from the Club itself, Sandy Town Council and Central Bedfordshire Council this will enable the club to upgrade the changing facilities for players and match officials at Bedford Road Pavilion Building. Colin Osborne, Club Chairman, said that he and the club were delighted with this support to supgrade the facilities of a building where little had been spent in the last 50 years. Cllr Susan Sutton, Town May of Sandy agreed “It is very good news that the pavilion building is to have this much needed facelift. Participation in sport and exercise is so important for our community and both club members and visitors will really benefit from these improvements.”
Work will begin at the Recreation Ground in early June and should be completed before the school holidays are ended. The Pavilion itself is to be extended but most of the work will be to the interior of the building. The children’s play area will stay open throughout and it is hoped to keep any inconvenience to near neighbours and users of the park to a minimum.
The improvements to the Pavilion should help the club to work towards promotion, but we won't be seeing new football stands, floodlights and advertising hoardings at Bedford Road. Tthe Town Council is committed to keeping the site as a multi-use recreation ground with room for everyone to enjoy a range of activities as well as football.
Residents might like to know that new parking restrictions are soon to be introduced by Central Bedfordshire Council in Albion Court and on Bedford Road to help deal with traffic congestion around Bedford Road Recreation Ground. Please park carefully if you are using the facilities at the recreation ground and don't forget the free town centre car park is not far away and much safer than parking on Bedford Road or in Albion Court.
