The Romans in Sandy – find out more on Tuesday 14th November
Some 1900 years ago Sandy was a prosperous Roman town, with a stone town wall, a town centre in the area of our modern cemetery, road links to St Albans and Godmanchester, and suburbs and cemeteries along Stratford Road, Swaden, and where Tesco stands today. Come along to Beeston Methodist Church Hall on Tuesday 14 November to discover the latest news about Sandy’s Roman past. Our speakers Les Capon from AOC Archaeology and Mike Luke from Albion Archaeology will describe the findings from the dig at the cemetery extension in Stratford Road and hopefully provide a complete overview of what we now know about Roman Sandy, including where the Roman town wall was located, what lay inside the wall, and what lay outside the wall. Please arrive for 7.30pm. Our venue is at 4 The Baulk, Beeston, Sandy SG19 1NR, the Church Hall is accessed from the A1 via the Limes estate, and there is plenty of parking at the rear of the Hall. Admission is £4.00 (but free to members of Sandy Historical Research Group), and our two talks will follow our short Annual General Meeting. Refreshments will be available. For more information and to reserve your place on Tuesday 14 November, please email [email protected] or phone 01767 226392.
