Cemetery & Churchyard

Sandy Cemetery, Potton Road, Sandy, SG19 2AA.

Sandy Churchyard, St Swithun's Church, High Street, Sandy, SG19 1AQ.

Sandy Town Council owns and manages Sandy Cemetery in Potton Road.  The cemetery is laid to lawn and the planting is maintained by the Council’s staff.  The earliest modern burials in the cemetery date back to 1891 and space is now limited.  However, we are still able to offer burials and interment of ashes during the hours 10 am to 2.45 pm Monday to Thursday and from 10 am to 2.30 pm on Fridays.

Please contact the Town Council office with any enquiries and to obtain information about current fees and clarification of burial regulations.

The Town Council does not allow pre-purchase of plots in Sandy Cemetery.

Cemetery Chapel

There is a small Chapel building in Sandy Cemetery which has been recently refurbished by kind donations from a resident and local trades people. Therefore, we are now able to offer it for use by undertakers for funerals, for a flat rate which can be found in the Burial Fees document, below. There is no water or electricity in the chapel, but a gas heater is provided.

St Swithuns Churchyard

Sandy Town Council is responsible for the upkeep and maintenance of closed churchyards within its boundaries and therefore maintains the churchyard of St Swithuns Parish Church which is now closed for all burials.

Burial Records Enquiries

Members of the public making enquiries as part of genealogical or family history research will be assisted by our staff team.  We ask that you get in contact with us before visiting the offices or cemetery to allow time to research your request. It may be necessary to make a small charge if extensive searches are required.
