Budget
Sandy Town Council receives its main source of income by setting an annual “precept” or local tax payable by residents. This money is collected by Central Bedfordshire Council with the Council Tax and passed to the Town Council for its activities. Additional limited revenue comes from charging for some services, eg burial fees and from securing grants or public funding.
The Council as a whole, with the help of its Responsible Financial Officer, is responsible for putting in place proper arrangements for the governance of its affairs and the prudent stewardship of the resources in its care. The annual precept is set at a meeting of the whole council in January of each year and is based on the council’s estimated budget for the financial year ahead. The budget, in turn, is based on the council’s plans about the facilities and services it intends to provide.
The document attached to this page shows the Council's budgets for the year 2021/22 and 2023/24 along with the budget for the current financial year 2022/23. For details of actual expenditure see our pages on council accounts.
