Weekly COVID-19 update 23.09.21

Date Added: 23/09/2021

Case numbers slightly down but still high and sadly there were seven deaths last week.

Over the last week (week ending 22 September), cases in Central Bedfordshire have gone down by 26 to 753 (256.0 cases per 100,000). Sadly, there were seven deaths registered in our area in the last reporting week.

The reports from our neighbours show a similar pattern:
• Bedford - 448 new cases, down 7 (256.5 cases per 100,000) with 1 death reported
• Luton - 613 new cases, down 119 (287.1 cases per 100,000) with 4 deaths reported
• Milton Keynes – 719 new cases, up 34 (266.1 cases per 100,000) and 3 deaths reported

Coronavirus remains a serious health risk. You should stay cautious to help protect yourself and others.
• Let fresh air in if you meet indoors. Meeting outdoors is safer
• Wear a face covering in crowded and enclosed spaces
• Get tested and self-isolate if required
• Keep washing your hands regularly
• If you haven’t already, get vaccinated

COVID-19 vaccines are now available for everyone over 12
Booster vaccines for people most at risk
People aged 50 years and over, care home residents, frontline health and social care workers, and those aged 16 to 49 years with specific underlying health conditions will be offered a booster vaccine dose. Find out more about the booster vaccine on NHS.UK.

First dose vaccinations for young people
All young people aged 12 to 15 will soon be offered a first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine. The NHS will contact you.

If you're aged 18 or over (or will turn 18 within 3 months) you can book your COVID-19 vaccination appointments online for an appointment at a vaccination centre or pharmacy or find a walk-in COVID-19 vaccination site to get vaccinated without needing an appointment

If you are aged 16 to 17 you will be contacted by a local NHS service such as a GP surgery to book your vaccination appointments or go to any of the local walk-in centres – just turn up, no appointment needed.
