Weekly COVID-19 report -26.08.21

Date Added: 26/08/2021

Case numbers up yet again this week

New cases of COVID-19 have gone up again this week, with the numbers in local hospitals also up. Sadly 3 deaths were registered in our area in the last reporting week.

Over the last week (week ending 25 August), cases in Central Bedfordshire have gone up by 76 to 869 new cases (301.1 per 100,000).

Among our neighbours, all are now reporting case rates over 300 per 100,000 people:
• Bedford - 609 new cases, up 110 (351.4 per 100,000) with 1 death reported
• Luton - 642 new cases, down 32 (301.3 per 100,000) with 4 deaths reported
• Milton Keynes - 843 new cases, up 39 (312.9 cases per 100,000) and 3 deaths reported

This is now the third weekly increase in a row in Central Bedfordshire. Coronavirus remains a serious health risk. You should stay cautious to help protect yourself and others.
• Meet outside, or open windows and doors for indoor visitors
• If you think you have symptoms stay at home and take a PCR test
• Wear face coverings in crowded places and on public transport
• Check in to venues when you go out
• Wash your hands with soap regularly, and for at least 20 seconds
• Get vaccinated

Weekly reports

Book your vaccine now
The COVID-19 vaccines are safe and effective. They give you the best protection against COVID-19.
47.8 million people across the UK have received their first dose and 42 million have had both doses.

COVID-19 vaccines are available for:
• everyone aged 16 or over
• some children aged 12 to 15 who have a higher risk of getting seriously ill from COVID-19 or who live with someone at high risk of catching it

The COVID-19 vaccines currently available are given in 2 doses. You usually have the 2nd dose 8 to 12 weeks after the 1st dose.

If you're aged 18 or over (or will turn 18 within 3 months)
• book your COVID-19 vaccination appointments online at a vaccination centre or pharmacy
• find a walk-in COVID-19 vaccination site without needing an appointment
• wait to be contacted by your GP surgery and book your appointment

If you cannot book appointments online, you can call 119 free of charge.

Children and young people aged 12 to 17
People aged 16 and 17, and children aged 12 to 15 who are eligible, will be contacted by a local NHS service such as a GP surgery to book their vaccination appointments.

People aged 16 and 17 can also get their Pfizer vaccination at any of these walk-in centres – just turn up, no appointment needed.
• Shefford, Priory House - 9am-5pm every day
• Dunstable, Watling House - 9am-5pm Saturday and Sunday
