Weekly COVID-19 report 18.03.21

Date Added: 18/03/2021

Weekly figures

The number of new COVID-19 cases in Central Bedfordshire (in the week ending 14 March) was 137. The previous week’s number of cases was 135. The number of weekly positive cases per 100,000 population stands at 47.

The report also shows over 91,000 adults have been vaccinated with at least one dose, with almost 10,000 in the last 7 days. This is good progress however, the virus is still in our communities and sadly, the report shows that 11 residents have died in the latest reporting week.

The latest data from our neighbouring areas are as follows:
• Milton Keynes – 182 new cases (67 cases per 100,000) and 7 deaths. 8,220 vaccinated (last 7 days).
• Luton – 246 new cases (115 cases per 100,000) and 4 deaths. 5,813 vaccinated.
• Bedford – 82 new cases (47 cases per 100,000) and 9 deaths. 3,844 vaccinated.

Although the number of cases has been steadily decreasing recently, this week’s report indicates how fragile the situation is. As restrictions gradually start to ease we must make extra effort to control the virus and prevent cases from creeping back up.

Remember, only go out if it’s essential like shopping, school or work. If you do go out wear a face covering, keep socially distanced where possible and regularly wash your hands.

If you do need to leave home and come into contact with others you should get tested. The test is free and available to anyone who has no symptoms of COVID-19 and results back within an hour.
