Weekly COVID-19 report 08.07.21

Date Added: 08/07/2021

Case numbers more than double in a week

Cases of COVID-19 have risen significantly this week, with case numbers reaching levels last seen at the end of January.

We are seeing the number of people with COVID-19 needing hospital care going slightly down. Sadly there was one death here in the last reporting week.

Over the last week (week ending 7 July), cases in Central Bedfordshire have gone up by 408 to 754 new cases (261.2 per 100,000).

Among our neighbours, cases are also up
• Bedford - 363 new cases (209.5 per 100,000) with 2 deaths reported
• Luton - 473 new cases (222.0 per 100,000) with no deaths reported
• Milton Keynes - 664 new cases (246.4 cases per 100,000) and no deaths reported

Vaccines are significantly reducing the link between infections and severe disease and death. However, the pandemic is not over. Cases are rising rapidly in our area, and we have to stay vigilant and act carefully.

Everyone should get vaccinated as soon as they can and get their second dose as soon as they are eligible.

People should get a rapid lateral flow test twice a week if they have no symptoms and get a PCR test if they have any symptoms.

People can get their vaccine at a walk-in centre this week or book online – www.blmkccg.nhs.uk

The best way out of the pandemic is to:
• Get vaccinated – first and second doses
• Get a rapid lateral flow twice a week if you have no symptoms
• Get a PCR test if you have any symptoms
• Remember Hands Face Space Fresh Air

Everyone over 18 can now be vaccinated
Vaccination is our best line of defence against COVID-19, to protect you and others around you. It's also the best way to end the restrictions and get back to normal.

• Anyone over 18 can BOOK a vaccination now
• Anyone over 18 can have their first Pfizer vaccination by using the NHS walk-in centres to get their jab. No appointment needed.
• Anyone over 40 can go to a walk-in vaccination centre to get their first or second Astra-Zeneca dose
• Anyone over 40 can now book their second jab on the national booking system from eight weeks after their first dose.

Let's keep working together to stay safe.
