Weekly COVID-19 report 04.02.21

Date Added: 04/02/2021

COVID-19 cases continue to fall but remain high

The number of new COVID-19 cases in Central Bedfordshire (in the week ending 31 January) decreased to 704. This is a decrease of 260 cases from the previous week. The number of weekly positive cases per 100,000 population is now down to 243.

Whilst the number of new cases continues to decline from the previous weeks, pressure on our health service remains significant. Very sadly, the report shows that 42 residents have died.

Whilst the reduction in the number of new cases is positive, the virus remains very prevalent in our communities and new variants of the virus seem to be more easily spread. So we are not out of the woods yet. We must continue to stay at home, only go out when it is essential and remember to wash our hands regularly, wear face covering appropriately and continue social distancing.

Even if you have received your vaccination, you may not be fully protected from the virus yet so you should continue to follow the advice.
Here is the latest data from our neighbours.
• Milton Keynes – 747 new cases (277 cases per 100,000) and 54 deaths
• Luton – 916 new cases (429 cases per 100,000) and 40 deaths
• Bedford – 670 new cases (386 cases per 100,000) and 33 deaths
