Weekly COVID-19 report 01.04.21
Date Added: 01/04/2021
Weekly figures
The number of new COVID-19 cases in Central Bedfordshire (in the week ending 28 March) was 159, ten more than the previous week (149). The number of weekly positive cases per 100,000 population has increased to 55 (from 52 last week).
Vaccination is increasing - 148,600 adults have been vaccinated with at least one dose, with 21,848 receiving a jab in the last 7 days. However, the virus is still around in our community and sadly 8 people died with COVID-19 in the last week.
The latest data from our neighbouring areas are as follows:
• Milton Keynes – 133 new cases (49 cases per 100,000) and 4 deaths. 13,614 vaccinated (last 7 days).
• Luton – 226 new cases (116 cases per 100,000) and 6 deaths. 10,601 vaccinated.
• Bedford – 61 new cases (35 cases per 100,000) and 1 death. 11,052 vaccinated.
The roadmap out of lockdown has begun. From 29 March, the ‘stay at home’ rule ended - and up to 6 people or 2 households can meet outside. Shielding ended on 31 March.
This is all welcome news but the increase in cases shows we how careful we need to be. Meeting friends outdoors is a lot safer than in enclosed spaces. As tempting as it might be to bend the rules a little, the number of cases has been slowly rising over the last few weeks so we cannot take risks. Always remember: Hands, Face, Space, Fresh air.
To help protect yourself and others, remember that rapid testing is now available to anyone who lives or works in Central Bedfordshire who needs to leave their home and is likely to come into contact with other people.
The test is free and gives results back within an hour. More details
