Tips for a smoke and booze-free Christmas

When it comes to smoking and drinking, it’s easy to get swept up in endless festive celebrations and overdo it. If you want to reduce the amount you smoke or drink, free support is available.

Drinking support

Feel like your festive drinking is getting out of hand – or just want to cut down?
• For tips to you reduce your intake, Alcohol Change UK and Drinkaware are great places to start
• Try tasty alternatives to alcoholic drinks, from low volume beer to mocktails and alcohol-free festive drinks
• Under 25? Young Minds , The Mix and NACOA offer support about drinking, just for you
• If you want to talk to someone about your alcohol or drug intake Path 2 Recovery can help
• Already on a recovery journey, SAMAS (the Support, Advice, Mentoring and Advocacy service) in Bedfordshire are also available to talk

Smoking support
Christmas can be a very social and stressful time, both of which can lead to more cravings and urges to smoke.  Help is at hand:
• These top tips can help you tackle cravings and stress caused by going smoke-free
• You are three times more likely to succeed in quitting with specialist help. Our free Stop Smoking Service offers friendly and confidential help
• Smoking is an expensive habit.  For some added motivation to go smoke-free, find out how much money you could save
• Finally, read ex-smoker James’ story, to show it can be done!

What is Dry January?
Dry January is a great time to find additional support from a wider community of people, to help you cut down or quit.
• Download the free Try Dry app
• Sign up online to double your chance of having an alcohol-free month 
• Join the hugely supportive Dry January community group
• Share your story about how you got ‘your you back’, to give inspiration other
• Consider becoming a Community Champion for Alcohol Change UK
