New Memorial Bench Installed

On Thursday 28th October, the Mayor of Sandy, Councillor Martin Pettitt, joined the Sandy Royal British Legion’s Branch Poppy Appeal Organiser, Cheryl Watkins to mark the installation of a new memorial bench. They were also joined by Paul Pibworth, who designed and made the bench.
The bench was funded and commissioned by the Sandy Royal British Legion, with a supporting grant from the Town Council. Organised by Cheryl the bench is designed to commemorate the service of members of the armed forces throughout all conflicts and will stand as a permanent testament that the people of Sandy still remember the sacrifices made by so many to preserve our freedom.
Cllr Pettitt, Mayor of Sandy; "On behalf of the whole community of Sandy I warmly welcome and thank sincerely the Sandy Branch of the Royal British Legion for the donation of this special bench now installed in our town centre. As we enter a period of Remembrance in this the Centenary of the RBL it will serve as a lasting memorial to all those who have fought, suffered and made the ultimate sacrifice, We Will Remember Them".
The bench has been sited in front of the Remembrance garden, outside Sandy Delivery Office, which was recently refreshed and replanted by volunteers from around the town and Sandy Centre Group.
