Books by Peter Laws
Peter Laws is the creator of the creepy crime fiction series, featuring Matt Hunter. Matt is an atheist ex-vicar turned university professor, who helps the police solve cult related and religiously motivated crimes. The novels are intense, quirky and laced with hints of the supernatural and black humour.
In Purged, Matt Hunter is on holiday in an idyllic part of Oxfordshire where wooden crosses hang at every turn, when a local girl goes missing. Caught up in an investigation that brings disturbing memories to the surface, Matt is on the trail of a killer who is determined to save us all.
Matt Hunter, former church minister and now university professor, is called in to advise the police on the possible ritualistic elements of a death, in the follow-up Unleashed. And he is forced to ask himself, are forces beyond the grave at work or is a flesh-and-blood killer at large?
In Severed, the teenage son of the vicar brutally attacks his father with an axe in full view of the congregation. A frantic police search for the boy follows as rumours circulate that he was involved in devil worship. Matt Hunter is brought in to advise, but soon suspects the cause is far more complex than first thought.
The latest in the series is Possessed. When a blood-soaked man is discovered with the word Baal-Berith scored into his flesh, the bewildered police call on expert Professor Matt Hunter to assist. Before long, a gruesome discovery is made and Hunter is drawn into a frenzied murder investigation.
Peter is also author on the non-fiction book The Frighteners, which follows his quest to understand why so many people love things that are spooky, morbid and downright repellent. He meets vampires, hunts werewolves in Hull, talks to a man who has slept on a mortuary slab to help him deal with a diagnosis, and is chased by a chainsaw-wielding maniac through a farmhouse full of hanging bodies.
You can reserve books by Peter Laws on our library catalogue, Arena, at no charge, to collect from your local library. The books will also be on sale at the event.
