Make an Impact! Become a Councillor or a Volunteer
Date Added: 28/06/2024
You may have spotted bright-coloured flowers in planters all around the town lately. It is The Council’s way of beautifying the community while reducing the effects of climate change. Currently, we grow bedding plants in our planters and are exploring more sustainable alternatives like the growing of perennials. Thus, The Town Council welcomed Corrine Calligan’s initiative to adopt the large circular planter at the entrance to Windsor Way to grow perennials. Ms Calligan is a qualified Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) professional gardener and will be responsible for planting and caring for the perennials for the next 12 months. The outcome of this trial will inform the Council's decision to expand the scheme to other areas in Sandy.
In the spirit of making a positive impact in the community, The Council invites residents with a commitment to civic engagement, to become councillors. This is a unique opportunity to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of Sandy and fostering community growth. Sandy Town Council is seeking 1 new member to fill the vacancy that we have at the Fallowfield Ward. You do not need any special qualifications to become a councillor (though work experience and relevant qualifications are welcomed!); but mainly the desire and love for Sandy with a willingness to put in the effort required. Applicants must be over 18, be an elector, live or work in or near Sandy and be a citizen of the EU or the Commonwealth.
Please reach out to [email protected] for an application form and more information. You can also pass by the Town Council offices at 10 Cambridge Road, Sandy during its opening times.
Completed forms must be submitted no later than Friday 23rd August 2024. The Town Council intends to select its new member at a meeting on 2nd September 2024. If successfully voted on they will become a member of the council.
The Town Council is always looking for volunteers to help with different activities around the town including gardening, events support and even administrative support. If you are interested, please send an enquiry to [email protected] or call us on 01767 681491 to learn how you can support.
