Loft Insulation Telephone Calls

Act with caution if you receive a suspicious telephone call
The Trading Standards team are reminding residents to act with caution if they receive a suspicious telephone call raising concerns over the suitability or safety of their current loft insulation.
Callers have been reported as attempting to arrange for a ‘surveyor’ to visit the resident’s home to examine their loft insulation and discuss further options.
One resident has contacted us after he received a ‘surveyor’ visit to inspect their insulation. The surveyor made various claims alleging that he had detected dangerous pathogens in the home and that the roof timbers were so damp the roof was potentially dangerous.
The ‘surveyor’ then proceeded with a high pressure selling technique in an effort to get the resident to agree for any work to go ahead immediately.
Our advice is never be intimidated into making a quick decision you may later regret and always take a moment to ask yourself whether the caller is genuine or not. Do not provide any personal details to someone who has called you out of the blue.
If you happen to be interested in what is being offered by any caller, take some time to verify any claims being made and seek further advice and quotes by contacting other local reputable businesses.
If you have any doubts about a telephone call you receive, simply end the call by hanging up.
Please protect others from falling victim to these types of scam by telling your family, friends and neighbours about this alert.
