It's okay to ask.

Date Added: 02/06/2021

Life is full of questions...

There are tough questions: “Mummy, where do babies come from?”.

There are complicated ones: “Please explain Einstein’s theory of relativity?”.

And there are some seriously awkward questions: “How do I delete my internet history”.

Then, there are those questions - no matter how uncomfortable - that are important to ask, because they keep us safe.

When it comes to protecting yourself and your loved ones, it is important to know that it is okay to ask things that will help reduce the spread of COVID-19.  No matter how awkward or uncomfortable those questions, people will understand your reasons for asking them.

For example, it is absolutely fine to ask...
• that friend who always embraces you “Do you mind if we don’t hug today?”
• when meeting up with a group of friends “Are you guys taking COVID tests before we meet?”
• when out shopping and someone gets a little too close “Could you step back a little, please?”
• when serving someone “Please can you pop your mask on?”
• if you notice there is no ventilation in a restaurant “Can you open a window please?”
• when a friend suggests meeting down the pub for a drink “Can we book a table outdoors, instead of inside?”.

Tips for asking tough questions
When you do have to ask uncomfortable questions, these three tips can help:
• Be honest: Explain why you are asking (“because I’m worried about catching COVID-19").
• Be direct: Try and get to the point as quickly as possible.
• Be patient: Give them time to digest things. It can take people a while to process what has been asked.
