Incredible Edible starts in Sandy
Date Added: 20/05/2024
Incredible Edible is a planting scheme which originated from Todmorden in West Yorkshire with the aim of creating edible landscapes in public spaces, transforming underused public spaces into thriving community gardens, empowering communities through the power of, and access to food, fostering community engagement and promoting food security.
Sandy Town Council is pleased to introduce this scheme to Sandy with support from The Bedfordshire Rural Communities Charity (BRCC). The role of BRCC is to establish the project, provide The Council with the required knowledge and tools, and assist where needed when the project is established. Sandy Town Council warmly welcomes this scheme and is committed to recruiting volunteers and nurturing them into a self-sustaining volunteer network.
Four locations have been identified for Incredible Edible Sandy. These are:
-
The Herb Garden (Stratford Road)
-
The Railway Triangle
-
The High Street, St Swithun's Church Rooms
-
Bedford Road Recreation Ground
BRCC has arranged to have sessions with volunteers in May and June to kick off Incredible Edible Sandy. The first session took place on 17th May and was a huge success. Subsequent dates for the sessions are 24th May, 31st May, 7th June and 14th June 2024.
Sandy Town Council calls on all residents interested in joining to send an email to [email protected] to sign up and be added to the volunteer group who would receive regular updates on Incredible Edible.
