HM Lord Lieutenant Commemorates VJ Day
Date Added: 17/08/2020
HM Lord-Lieutenant of Bedfordshire Helen Nellis, as HM The Queen’s representative in Bedfordshire, virtually commemorated the 75th anniversary of VJ Day, the moment when Japan announced its surrender to the Allies, finally bringing an end to the Second World War.
Ordinarily, the service would have been held at Elstow Abbey in the presence of members of Bedfordshire’s rich and diverse community. However, the service in its usual format had to be cancelled due to the pandemic and therefore the Lord-Lieutenant would like to share this online service with you to pay tribute to the Far East Prisoners or War who either lost their lives or returned from the conflict injured.
The service can be viewed at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E3Ps4-WnnUA and the Lord-Lieutenant very much hopes that you will take some time at some point to watch the service so that you can all be together in spirit.
The Lord-Lieutenant would like to record her sincere thanks to Deputy Lieutenant Phil Fothergill for all his hard work in putting the service together and to all who appear in the service. We hope you enjoy it.
