Have your say on the planning application for the transformation of Sandy Secondary School
Date Added: 22/04/2022
Planning consultation
A planning application has been registered with Central Bedfordshire Council for changes to remodel and refurbish Sandy Secondary School.
This is because, while the school is recognised by the Department for Education as a school of more than eight forms of entry, it does not have the capacity to accommodate the existing students, which have increased in five years from 535 to just over 1,000.
The application details the following:
• remodel and refurbish the existing buildings, including the frontage of the school
• build a new teaching block
• build a new special education needs area
• build new external recreational areas
Feedback is welcomed on these proposed changes for Sandy Secondary School, which are aimed at helping improve the education of young people in the area by offering more facilities for the students, whilst increasing specialist learning spaces to meet the changing demands of the curriculum.

What happens next?
The planning consultation closes on May 6, 2022, and the target date for a decision on the application is July 1, 2022. If planning permission is granted, Central Bedfordshire Council will appoint a contractor and a build programme will be produced.
