Get tested to stop the new variant spreading

Date Added: 20/05/2021

With the rise of new COVID-19 variants, it’s never been more important to test yourself regularly.  These tests can check if you unknowingly have the virus and can then help you stop its spread.  We need to keep each other safe – and testing can help do this.

If you are going to the gym, a friend's house, or the pub take a rapid test before you go.

Rapid tests are easy to do yourself and you can:
• get tests from our mobile testing sites
• pick up tests from local pharmacies
• pick up tests from your local library
• order a test online to be delivered to you
They are free and easy to do, and you get a result in 30 minutes.

If you have any symptoms
If you have any symptoms at all please book a PCR test. If you don’t have a continuous cough, temperature or loss of sense of taste or smell you can still book a test by selecting “I’ve been told to get a test by my local council”.

You should self-isolate immediately if you have symptoms or a positive test result for COVID-19. There is financial support if you’re off work because of coronavirus.

In addition, you should try to avoid travelling in and out of affected areas unless it is essential, for example for work (if you cannot work from home) or education.

As we go out and about more and meet up indoors, it is even more important that we keep up our guard, especially with the new COVID-19 variant spreading in Central Bedfordshire.

Given the increased risk of transmitting COVID-19, you should take extra care when meeting anyone outside your household or support bubble. This will keep yourself and others safe.

In particular, wherever possible, you should try to:
• Meet outside rather than inside where possible
• Try to keep 2 metres apart from people that you don’t live with
• If you meet inside, make sure the room is well ventilated – open doors and windows
• Get tested twice a week for free and isolate if you are positive
• Continue to work from home if you can
• Get vaccinated when you are offered it, and encourage others to do so as well
