Coronavirus update 29.01.21

Date Added: 01/02/2021

Be a super shopper and reduce your chances of catching COVID-19 when shopping
Going to the shop for essential items can be risky. It could be the only time you come into contact with people outside your household, increasing the risk of catching or spreading COVID-19.

Be a super shopper and shop smart. Use our Top Trumps card to test out your super shopper skills.

Before shopping you should:

  • Plan ahead to keep the number of times you need to go to the shop to a minimum
  • Go when the shop is likely to be quiet
  • Prepare a list so you know what you need and get in and out quickly

When you go shopping you should:

  • Go on your own if you can
  • Wash or sanitise your hands before and after you shop
  • Wear a face covering
  • Keep your distance from others. There is very little risk to you if you are just passing by someone briefly in a shop. But try to keep a distance of 2 metres as much as possible.
  • Pay by card instead of cash - contactless payment may reduce the risk of infection. If you use cash, the risk is low, particularly if you clean your hands regularly after handling cash.

Shopping for a vulnerable person

If you have been shopping for someone who is isolating or vulnerable and can’t shop:

  • Leave the shopping on their doorstep
  • Ring the bell or phone them
  • Stand back while they collect it
  • Ask them to pay you online rather than cash

Watch out for vaccine scams

Unfortunately some criminals are taking advantage of the roll out of the coronavirus vaccine to commit fraud.

The most important point to remember is that the vaccine is free of charge.

The NHS will never:

  • ask you for your bank account or card details
  • ask you for your PIN or banking password
  • arrive unannounced to your home to administer the vaccine
  • ask you to prove your identity by sending copies of personal documents such as your passport, driving licence, bills or pay slips

Find out more and how to report issues on the Action Fraud website.
