Coronavirus update 14.06.21

Date Added: 14/06/2021

Cases of COVID-19 are continuing to go up with the new Delta variant spreading across our area. The roll out of vaccinations is continuing to reach more and more people and reducing the number of people becoming seriously ill.

However, the virus is now spreading fastest among younger people, especially those of school and college age.
COVID-19 symptoms may seem like a bad cold for most young people but they could spread the virus to older and more vulnerable people.

That's why we all need to test regularly even if we don't have symptoms. Test twice a week if you or anyone in your household are going out to school, college, work or socialising.

If you have children at school or college or you are at college yourself, you can get rapid tests from your school or college.

You can also get free rapid tests from local libraries, pharmacies and online or from our mobile test and collect buses in Biggleswade, Houghton Regis, Flitwick and Dunstable, where you can also do a supervised test. Find out more here.

Rapid tests are quick and easy to do and give a result in 30 minutes. If you get a positive result you should self-isolate and immediately get a PCR test to confirm the result and make sure you aren't spreading the virus without realising it.

More walk-in vaccination centres this week
The local NHS is offering more walk-in centres this week. No appointment needed - just turn up!

Walk-in Centres for Pfizer
• Anyone 25-39 can have their first Pfizer vaccination by using the local NHS walk-in centres to get their jab.
• Or you can book your appointment online

Walk-in centres for Astra-Zeneca
• Anyone over 40 can get their first or second dose of the Astra Zeneca vaccine by going to the NHS walk-in centres in Dunstable, Luton, Bedford or Milton Keynes.

Everyone over 25
You can also get the vaccine at community pharmacies now, including in Dunstable, Leighton Buzzard, Biggleswade, Stotfold and Woburn Sands. Book via the national booking service.

Vaccines protect against all variants but you need both doses so make sure you keep your second appointment.

When it’s your turn, join the millions and get vaccinated.
