Coronavirus update 05.07.21

Date Added: 05/07/2021

NHS offering more walk-in vaccine sessions this week
Anyone aged 18 and over can walk into a number of vaccination centres across Bedfordshire, Luton and Milton Keynes this week without the need for an appointment – and now you can get the new Moderna vaccine as well.

Walk-in sessions for Pfizer vaccinations only
Anyone over 18 can have their first vaccination by using our walk-in centres to get their jab.  No appointment needed.

The second dose can only be given to those who have waited a minimum of eight weeks from their first dose of the Pfizer vaccine.

Pfizer walk-ins

  • Dunstable, Watling House, – 9am to 5pm, Monday to Thursday
  • Biggleswade Hospital – 8am to 4pm, Monday to Sunday

Walk-in opening times – AstraZeneca
Please note: the first dose of AstraZeneca is for over 40s only.

AstraZeneca walk-ins

  • Dunstable, Watling House, 9am to 5pm, Friday, Saturday and Sunday
  • Flitwick, Rufus Centre, times vary, see here, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Sunday

There are also sites for Pfizer and AstraZeneca in Luton, Bedford and Milton Keynes and Moderna in Luton. See the local NHS website for details.

Moderna provides a third shot in the arm
The Moderna vaccine is now available from the NHS through three of the pharmacy vaccination clinics in our area.

  • Boots Pharmacy in The Arndale Centre, Luton
  • The Rufus Centre in Flitwick
  • The Acorn Pharmacy, Luton

The Moderna vaccine uses a similar technology to the Pfizer jab making it suitable for under 40s but does not require the same -70c storage.

Adults aged under 40, or anyone else who still needs to book their jab, will be able to select one of these sites through the national booking centre or calling 119 between 7am and 11pm any day of the week. Dependent on vaccine supply, these pharmacies are also offering a drop-in service – more details about drop-ins can be found here.

Moderna walk-ins

  • Flitwick Rufus Centre, 8.45am to 3pm Friday and 12pm to 5.30pm Sunday

Elsewhere across the area vaccinations are still available at large vaccination sites and pharmacies. Details can be found on the NHS website.

Get a rapid test if you don't have symptoms
Everyone without symptoms can now get a free, rapid COVID-19 test. You can get a test and collect test kits to use at home from our test sites in Biggleswade, Flitwick, Dunstable and Leighton Buzzard, from local pharmacies or online. Find out more here.
