Consultation on accommodation strategy for adults with care and support needs
Date Added: 20/09/2021
On Wednesday, 1 September we launched a 12-week consultation on a draft accommodation strategy for adults with care and support needs to deliver new and improved accommodation for adults with care and support needs over the next five years. It aims to improve the lives of people aged 18-65 who have needs arising from physical or learning disabilities, mental health conditions or autism.?
This draft strategy sets out the council’s vision for adults with complex care and support needs to have more choice about where they live by increasing the range of housing and accommodation for working age adults, aged 18-64, and young people approaching adulthood.
We want to address health inequalities and develop a viable and sustainable alternative to the traditional residential care models.
The key aim will enable our residents to have more choice over their housing and support options to live independent and fulfilling lives in their own homes now and in the future.
If you currently live in specialist housing, or maybe you are a relative or friend of someone that does, we would love to hear your views and thoughts on how we should give more choice in where and, how adults with care and support live.
We will also be inviting people to some dedicated forums so if you do receive an invite please do consider attending.
Further information, plus a consultation questionnaire, is available online. The consultation will close on Tuesday 23 November 2021.
