Central Bedfordshire Council: Have your say on potential locations for Changing Places Toilets
Date Added: 14/09/2021
We want to make Central Bedfordshire a great place to live and work for everyone, regardless of disability. An important part of this ambition is ensuring that everyone in our communities can go to the shops, travel freely, take part in community life, and enjoy our fantastic destinations, with access to comfortable and safe toilet facilities that most of us take for granted.
Changing Places Toilets (CPTs) are larger accessible toilets for people who cannot use standard disabled toilets, with equipment such as hoists, curtains, adult-sized changing benches, and space for carers. They are provided in addition to standard accessible toilets.
We now have an opportunity to bid for a share of government funding for the installation of CPTs in suitable locations across Central Bedfordshire, which would offer people with profound and multiple learning disabilities or with physical disabilities such as spinal injuries, muscular dystrophy, and multiple sclerosis the extra equipment and space they need.
Government research says that priority locations for CPTs include parks and gardens, visitor attractions, and shopping centres. However, we want to know what you think, to help identify priority locations. What are the locations that would make the most difference to you and your loved ones? Until Monday 20 September, you have the opportunity to have your say in our Survey on the future locations of Changing Places Toilets.
We will submit an expression of interest for the funding at the end of the month, taking into account your views from the survey. Watch this space to find out if our application is successful.
