The 15 Councillors of Sandy representing the 4 wards.
Town Mayor
Member of Community Services and Environment Committee and Policy, Finance and Resources Committee.
I have lived in Sandy nearly all of my life and my wife Lynda came to live here in the seventies. All of my four children were educated here and all but one has spread their wings.
I enjoy representing Sandy on all matters, but Beeston, the A1, the bridge and general access are all of particular concerns. Environment and sport are very important issues to the wellbeing of all and need careful attention.
Member of Community Services and Environment Committee.
Vice Chair of Policy, Finance and Resources Committee.
Retired Engineer
Former County, Mid Beds and Central Bedfordshire Councillor.
Member of Policy Finance and Resources Committee.
Chair of Human Resources Committee.
I came to Sandy with my family in 1992 to become headteacher at Sandy Upper School and was particularly attracted to the post by the school's community dimension. My time as head saw the openings of the all-weather hockey pitch and Toy Box Nursery; we hosted the touring Royal Shakespeare Company for a week and also international student gatherings. The extensive adult education programmes was hugely popular.
Since leaving the school I have been involved in consultancy work, providing outdoor opportunities for children in disadvantaged areas of the country and writing articles for two national support networks. I am chair of governors of a local lower school.
I have been heavily involved with the local community for well over 20 years. I was chair of the carnival committee for many years and more recently act as MC for the annual Christmas Lights event. I am President of Blunham Cricket Club, play for Bedfordshire Seniors and am the County Cricket Welfare officer. I enjoy fishing and am minuting secretary for two local associations. I founded Sandy's link with Skarszewy in northern Poland in 1995, and, as President of the local Twinning Association, promote this link as well as our long-standing liaison with Malaunay in Normandy.
I am the Homewatch coordinator for Beeston, am fluent in two foreign languages and can converse in two others. I was largely instrumental in compiling the Sandy and Beeston Town Plan for 2011-2020 and wrote an update last year. I keep busy, something which demands a good degree of personal organisation, and joining Sandy Town Council would seem a natural complement to many of the activities I pursue.
The needs of Sandy
I feel confident that I understand the complex social mix of the Sandy community and am fully aware of the key local issues. Sandy has many plusses, especially its excellent geographical location, but also many pressing needs. Town Councillors are not experts but simply willing volunteers who want to make a difference to their local communities. The town's budget is pitifully small and the Council has to continually make its voice heard at Central Beds. It is disappointing that there were not enough nominees to trigger an election in Ivel ward but you can be assured that I will make every effort to serve this community to the best of my abilities for the foreseeable future.
Member of Policy, Finance and Resources Committee.
Member of Development Scrutiny.

Member of Development Scrutiny Committee
Chair of Community Services and Environment Committee.
I have been a serving Councillor since 2005 and also had the honour of being chosen as the Town Mayor for 3 years. One half of my family has lived in the town for many generations and we have seen a lot of change in that time. Visiting grandparents during my childhood there were open fields at the end of Windsor Way. I believe that we need to see Sandy develop and grow, but in a way that is sustainable and will bring more employment and much needed facilities to the town. We are in a unique position being inbetween the A1 and railway that makes planning our future more complicated as decisions about those major routes are taken in London. However, I will do my utmost to ensure that the needs of our residents are not ignored during these crucial national transport discussions.

I have lived in Sandy all my life and am married to a local school teacher. I have helped with the local Girl Guides, ran the Sunday School for a while and am now a member of St. Swithun's P.C.C.
My two children attended schools within the town and I am presently working full-time as a learning support assistant at Sandy Secondary School.
I am well aware of the problems and issues facing the town and having lived here all my life, know many of the residents. I have seen the community grow and evolve and have been involved with many of its functions and activities. These include craft time at the library, the Christmas Tree festival and the walking group.
I hope I can use my experience and local knowledge to help plan for the future of Sandy and look forward to meeting everyone.
Member of Community Services & Environment Committee
I live in Sandy with my wife and two daughters. I have been impressed with the community spirit I have seen in Sandy through my daughter's School (St Swithun's), the local church (St. Swithun's P.C.C) and the recently formed Sandy All In Together group.
I buy/spend local where possible and enjoy taking walks around Sandy, particularly along the River Ivel and The Pinnacle. I intend to do what I can to improve our green spaces and community facilities.
Having grown up on a council estate and felt the pangs of hunger waiting for tax credits to clear, I am particularly passionate about helping those currently living in poverty. Any initiative to improve living standards in Sandy will get my full support and commitment.
