Sandy Tourist Information Centre

After a long period of reflection and debate Sandy Town Council has taken the difficult decision to integrate its Tourist Information Centre so as to concentrate its resources on other areas of work.
Mayor Cllr Will Jackson explains “In recent years the number of personal visitors to the centre has declined considerably as more and more people use the internet. At the same time the council’s general workload has expanded significantly, not least through changes to legislation and the focus on the localism agenda which encourages communities to take increasing responsibility for local services. We want to promote Sandy and the immediate area but we cannot justify a tourism service promoting UK-wide attractions any more. We will continue to provide information about the Town Council and the work we do, as well as promoting activities in Sandy and access to the countryside around us. We will do this by integrating our small administrative staff team with our tourism advisors and concentrating on engagement with our own residents.
It is planned to integrate the Tourist Information Centre at the end of January, the premises will be used to provide office space for our team and our information service will then operate from the main office at 10 Cambridge Road. The Council is proud to have kept the TIC operational for many years after Mid-Beds District Council decided it was an unaffordable luxury. We know many residents will be disappointed at this change but we must equip ourselves to face future challenges.”
