Review of Burial Regulations agreed
Date Added: 23/09/2014
A review of Sandy Town Council's burial regulations was agreed at a meeting of council on 22 September 2014. A working group of sevem councillors will review the regulations and propose any changes to the council which will then determine what is to happen. The council expects a decision to be made no later than 19 January 2015 and possibly before that date.
The Town Mayor explained "We have taken into account all the feedback we have received from the community, including a petition, correspondence and views expressed at the public meeting we held on 11 September 2014. We want to be sure that we make a measured and careful decision about any changes to the regulations because they could change the character of the cemetery completely.”
The council continues to be interested in community views about the cemetery and invites anyone who has not yet made their opinion known to speak to a councillor or write, email or ring the council.
During our consultation period and particularly at the public consultation meeting on 11 September specific complaints about matters not to do with the regulations eg headstones etc were made. Many of these had not been notified to the council before the meeting and/or concerned historic cases. If you have a complaint about the cemetery at any time please make sure that you contact the council as soon as possible so that investiagtion and appropriate action can be taken.
