At a meeting on Monday 18 January 2016 Sandy Town Council confirmed that its total annual precept for 2016/17 will be set at £517,647. The average Band D tax payer in Sandy will face an annual bill of £131.08 – an increase equivalent to £7.41, equivalent to 5.99%.
As in the previous financial year the budget has been prepared against the backdrop of the loss in Council Tax Support funds from Central Bedfordshire Council. The Council continues to face pressure from central government and feels the effects of government budget cuts and increased operating costs. In 2016/17 the Council will be progressing some of its larger long term projects. Planning permission has been granted for the cemetery extension and the project will progress over the coming year, restoration work on the war memorial will also be carried out.
All aspects of the Council’s budget were scrutinised and efficiency savings made to ensure that its core functions are adequately resourced.
