Date Added: 02/08/2013
The new Tesco superstore in Sandy marked its first day of trading with an official opening ceremony and champagne reception.
After months of preparation, the new store, located on Station Road/New Road, opened its doors for the first time today, Thursday 1st August. During the official opening ceremony Store Manager Dave Harwood invited Town Mayor of Sandy, Councillor Susan Sutton, to cut a ribbon to declare the store open for business.
The Town Mayor also received a £1,000 donation from Dave and the team, which has been specially earmarked to go towards Sandy Christmas Lights this December. Chairman of Bedfordshire Council, Councillor Caroline Maudlin, also paid a special visit to the store to join in the opening celebrations.
Dave and his team welcomed guests and customers into the new store, which has created over 180 jobs for the local area. Dave said: “The launch was brilliant, we have worked so hard and to finally open the doors is a great feeling. I’d like to thank Councillor Susan Sutton for officially opening the store and Councillor Caroline Maudlin for visiting.
“Our main focus now is to deliver the best service possible to the residents of Sandy and provide a friendly and convenient place to shop.”
To continue celebrations, children’s favourite Peppa Pig will be at the store this Saturday 3rd August, making special appearances at intervals between 11am and 3.30pm. There will also be face painters and a children’s entertainer from 11am to 4pm and a complimentary BBQ from 11am.
The new store features fish and meat counters and essential Health and Beauty, Homeshop, Cookshop and Electrical ranges. Opening hours are 6am to midnight Monday to Saturday and 10am to 4pm on Sundays.
