New Mayor and Two New Councillors
Date Added: 20/05/2014
At the annual meeting of Sandy Town Council on Monday 19 May 2014 Cllr Will Jackson was elected as Town Mayor of Sandy. Cllr David Sharman will serve as his Deputy. Cllr Jackson is a well-known Sandonian. He has lived here all his life and until his retirement ran a business in the town. He takes over from Cllr Susan Sutton who has completed three years as Town Mayor.
On being elected Cllr Jackson said “I am very honoured to have been elected Mayor of Sandy and I am looking forward to a challenging year. There are lots of strengths in our local community and I welcome the chance to promote Sandy and to help the Town Council to serve everyone who lives and works here.” The Mayor went on to thank Cllr Sutton for all her hard work during her term of office.
At the same meeting Ms Teresa Cole and Mr Michael Groom were co-opted as members of the Town Council filling two casual vacancies in Fallowfield Ward and Pinnacle Ward. These two new councillors bring different skills and enthusiasms to the Council which is now back to its full complement of 15 members as it enters the final year of this four year term.
Althought the Town Council has experienced some changes in its membership during the past three years there has been no shortage of candidates for election and/or co-option. The Town Clerk and Councillors are always happy to talk to potential new candidates about standing for election in 2015 when all 15 seats on the council may be contested.
