Free fun for crafty children at half-term
Date Added: 04/02/2015
Crafty children can head to a host of different Central Bedfordshire libraries this month for some half-term holiday fun.
There are a range of different free activities taking place at libraries across the area, with children having the chance to make everything from pop-up adventure books to Chinese New Year lanterns.
The Travel Choices team is helping to organise three sessions in Dunstable, Houghton Regis and Leighton Buzzard where children aged five to 11 can make their own pop-up adventure books.
Things are getting fishy at Shefford where youngsters aged up to the age of 15 have two chances make their own mermaids and fishes, which will go on display at the library in High Street.
There’s a global feel to the fun at Biggleswade and Sandy, where children aged up to 15 can enjoy around the world-themed crafts and Chinese New Year lantern-making sessions respectively.
That’s just one of a host of events at Sandy, which is also holding dinosaur and Hungry Caterpillar-themed sessions, as well as the chance to make your own icicle.
Children can also make their own fruit friends at the library in Market Square while down in Toddington, kids have the chance to make their own sweets. They must be accompanied by an adult, though, due to possible food allergies.
Councillor Ian Dalgarno, Deputy Executive Member for Communities, said: “Our libraries team does a fantastic job putting on fun events for kids all year round, and these craft sessions are another great example of that.
“We know that money can be tight for some parents and it can be hard to keep children entertained during the holidays, which is why it’s great that these craft sessions are all free.
“If you’ve yet to discover some of the great events which your local library has to offer, then why not pop down, as you may well be pleasantly surprised.”
