Bogus "Dept. of Housing & Agriculture" letter

Date Added: 28/01/2019

Act with caution if you receive a suspicious looking letter!

We have been made aware of a letter received by residents in Northants which claims to be sent from the Department of Housing & Agriculture and is offering funding for alarms, CCTV and fire safety equipment for residents over the age of 55.

As well as the letter being sent from a bogus Government department that doesn't exist, there is also no such funding being made available for this type of equipment.

The letter is designed to tempt you into making contact with the sender, in an effort to either obtain your bank account details or apply a hard-selling technique, after which you may find you've spent more money than you anticipated.
Should you receive such a letter, please do not respond to it.

Instead, please report it to us by calling 03454 040506.

If the letter is followed up by a telephone call from a "sales representative", we would strongly advise that you decline any offer of an appointment to visit you at your home

Should you be interested in the products the letter is offering, please take time to shop around reputable businesses and obtain at least three quotes.

Alternatively, please visit Trading Standards Approved for a list of local businesses each vetted by our officers.

Please help protect others from falling victim to this type of scam, by letting your family, friends and neighbours know about this alert.

Be Scam Aware
